Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) General Description
The TPI program at Dunlap School District # 323 provides an additional English as a Second Language class for non-native English speaking students who need assistance with listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. The program provides support to help students succeed in academic subjects and learn English at the same time.
At the elementary level (K-5th grades), ESL classes are usually a pull-out program. Students from different language groups may participate together in the same ESL class according to their grade and language proficiency level.
In 2012-2013 academic year Dunlap School District # 323 introduced English as a Second Language (ESL) class at both middle schools (DMS/DVMS), and Dunlap High School (DHS). Students enrolled in ESL classes at middle and high schools will receive grades and a full credit towards four years of English language High School graduation requirement. Students from different language groups may participate in the same ESL class according to their grade and English language development level.
Our Teachers Students receive structured English instruction from three full - time professionals certified to teach English as a Second Language, and a full - time aid.
